The Ford Mustang model is a very well known and respected car worldwide. This year, Ford is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Mustang, dating all the way back to the 1964 Ford Mustang model.
The Ford Mustang has a long and colorful history. The first Mustang model was released in 1964, and was used as an Indy 500 pace car. Also this year, the Mustang appeared in the famous James Bond movie, “Goldfinger”. In 1968, the debut of the 428 Cobra Jet engine was released, and the Mustang 390 GT was seen in the Steve McQueen movie “Bullitt”. By 1971, the Boss 351 engine was released, along with the biggest, heaviest Mustang model ever. During the gas crisis of 1974, the Mustang II was released without a V-8 engine, which would not return to the model until 1975. Throughout the years, the Mustang has undergone many changes, both in style and performance. The new 2010 Ford Mustang that was released this year is an attempt to return to the feel of the older Mustang models, while still presenting a stylish and powerful driving experience.
To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Mustang, over 2,500 Mustang enthusiasts are trekking this year to Birmingham, Alabama where Blue Oval is holding festivities. The celebration will be held at the Barber Motorsports Park, and will last for four days. Also expected to attend are nine owners of the original 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Model. Several hundred thousand spectators to this event are also expected.
Some of the events scheduled in this celebration include a chance to ride laps inside a Mustang FR500S race car, a Mustang challenge race, a car show, and an enormous cruise of approximately 500 Mustang cars. With many other exciting events planned, it is definitely a celebration that would be worth attending for any Mustang enthusiast.
