Though many people believe that charity work is suffering in these rough economic times, one man is on a quest to change that. Dave Shuab, the owner of a Bay Area meat market, is planning to drive across America in a black replica 1932 Ford Highboy roadster. This car boasts 355 horsepower, and is detailed inside with red leather upholstery. The trip is estimated to last 9 days, and will have a finishing length of 9,800 miles. Dave Shuab plans to touch 49 of the 50 states in this estimated 216 hour journey.
Shuab is raising money for the drive, and will donate all of his donations to the Ronald McDonald charity house in Stanford. As of right now, he’s hoping to earn $100,000. Though the trip doesn’t start until September, Shaub is already rallying a lot of support for his goal. At 59, Shuab was inspired by the “Iron Butt Association” a motorcycle group that specializes in long-distance rides.
Shuab’s 1932 Ford Hipster replica was built in the 1990’s at a San Francisco shop called “Roy Brizio Street Rods”. It boasts a modern powertrain, which will allow it to achieve approximately 22 to 24 miles per gallon. Also included are a stretched wheelbase, as well as a custom chassis that will improve the overall quality of the ride. As of right now, this car only has 60,000 miles on it. Before the September drive, Shuab plans to take his car back to the shop to ensure that everything is in proper working order. As a fail-safe, Shaub is also bringing an extra fuel pump, as well as two Garmin GPS devices. Ford dealerships all over new jersey should be proud.
