When you decide to visit Ford Macon because you want to buy yourself a new Ford vehicle, you might be shocked to know that there are potentially 36 different models you could be choosing from! Of course, some of these are models that are sold only in other countries. Other nameplates are from Lincoln or Mercury, and both brands fall under the Ford family umbrella. Many car makers either own or are partnered with additional brand names. Infiniti is the luxury line from Nissan; Acura is the performance division from Honda Troy; Kia and Hyundai are sister companies; the list does go on. Ford Motor Company’s CEO, Alan Mulally, has recently announced that he would like to further consolidate the corporation to include only 20 to 25 nameplates.

When Mulally became CEO in 2006, there were 97 nameplates within the company, all of which could be serviced at Quick Lane Richmond. Mulally’s predecessor, Jacques Nasser, created the Premier Automotive Group which included the luxury lines of Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo. Mulally quickly dismantled the group, selling off the luxury lines one by one, with Volvo being the last one. Volvo was sold to China for $1.3 billion last month. All that is left now is Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury; for the time being. Mercury will be phased out at the end of the year, dropping four nameplates off the list. There are talks of the Lincoln name being scrapped as well, but that decision has yet to be finalized.

The goal date for this endeavor has yet to be announced, but things in the auto world typically happen in three to five year blocks of time. Mulally hopes to stop producing the brands that aren’t selling as well and consolidate his resources. The Ford Focus is a popular small sedan, and it is already sold in several global markets. There is no reason to be selling the same car under a different name. It is far more economical as a company to market and produce the same vehicle with different trim levels to take into consideration regional area preferences.

All good things must come to an end. Well, we sure hope that isn’t true because we love some of the innovative fuel efficient vehicles that Stafford Toyota brings to the market. But then again, who knows what the cars will look like in 50 years and maybe there will be bigger and better options? Rumors have been swirling for some time now that the Mercury brand name is being phased out of existence. Sadly, the rumors are true and Ford Motor Company will soon be comprised only of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Just like spring cleaning, you have to get rid of what isn’t working for you anymore. The line up at Birmingham Subaru has remained small and solid throughout the years, and there is no reason to expand to the point you can’t support yourself.
As of right now, there are approximately 250 dealerships across the country that sell only Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Ford has become large enough to occupy their own dealership, usually. The line up at Hartford Honda is also large enough to require their own showroom and lot, and their vehicles are a strong source of competition for the Ford line up. Over the years, the Mercury line up has been consistently getting smaller. While Lincoln and Mercury together offer a decent size inventory, removing the handful of cars that Mercury brings to the table is going to leave those 250 dealerships a little short on inventory.
It has yet to be determined how long Lincoln will remain a viable product. We have seen auto giants do it in the past, and downsizing can be a healthy business move. However, the process can be slow and painful for the employees affected during this process. Truth be told, there is no way that a stand-alone Lincoln dealership would survive very long, and they are being urged to join forces with the local Ford dealership. What is frustrating for a lot of people is that Ford Motor Company required that Lincoln-Mercury stores upgrade their mechanical equipment and showroom floors recently, and now those same shops are going to end up closing sooner than they ever anticipated. Lincoln’s fate will be determined on October 4, 2010, when Ford Motor Company makes a final decision about whether or not to continue producing Lincoln vehicles.

Right now is a great time to stop by Greensboro Mercury Dealer to check out the fantastic deals on the 2010 inventory. There is also a good chance you will find a new Mercury vehicle from Ford Denver, but buying directly from a Mercury dealer can offer you great dealership reward programs. Keep in mind that dealership reward programs are only in place as long as the dealership is in business! Mercury offers a small but solid line up of luxurious sedans and SUVs. Plus, the prices aren’t near as high as you might have originally thought.

Right now is a great time to buy and the great financing and prices going on during the Summer Sales Event will make you second guess going to Toyota Denver. Plus, if you go with a different brand you will end up paying close to the price of a Mercury for the level of quality and features that Mercury is known for. Take for example that you can get a 2010 Mercury Mariner small SUV with a base price of $23,565. You can get this as a hybrid model for a higher price, and they offer favorable options like Active Park Assist, Blind Spot Information System, and Ford’s Sync. If you want something a bit larger, check out the Mercury Mountaineer with a base price of $29,480. Drivers will appreciate getting 20 mpg on the highway and 85.8 cubic feet of cargo storage. The V6 engine is standard, but you can upgrade to the V8 for $38,490.

Those who want a sedan can choose from the Mercury Milan, Milan Hybrid, or Mercury Grand Marquis. The Milan starts out at only $22,025 and gets 33 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg around town. The hybrid version gets great gas mileage; 41 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway! And lastly, the Grand Marquis starts at $29,935 and is one of the roomiest and most comfortable vehicles in its class.

The VW Deals currently being offered are a great value, but if you are in the market for an affordable midsize car make sure you take some time to check out the 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid. U.S. News rank it number one in its class, and the hybrid version is still affordable way to save money on gas. While you will still have to use a lender like GMAC special finance to help you get into the driver’s seat of a new car, it is well worth the time you will spend on paperwork to end up driving such a great family vehicle. There are rivals in the class that are also worth you time to test drive before making your final decision. The Accord can be nicely equipped, which will give you a comparable vehicle. You can purchase an Accord from Honda Jackson or any other dealership in the country.

The Milan Hybrid will set you back $28,180, but you are going to get 41 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. It is well respected for its fuel efficiency, even though it does get slightly less than the class leader Toyota Prius. The Milan is better for families than the Prius; more room and a smoother drive. Reviewers say it is nearly identical to its cousin, the Ford Fusion Hybrid. You are going to spend a bit more on the Milan model, but the upgraded interior materials and technological features make it worth the extra cash.

Mercury offers a 3 year 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty on the Milan Hybrid and also an 8 year 100,000 mile hybrid powertrain specific warranty. Those extra years and miles of coverage will make even the most skeptical hybrid purchaser comfortable. And like all dealerships, there is always the option to buy an extended warranty for extra peace of mind.
