Still, when the models are similar enough in development, yet very different in price, the question to be asked about the more expensive car is this: is it worth the premium? Both the Ford Fusion and Lincoln Zephyr share the same platform along with the Mercury Milan. The base price differential for the two models is nearly ten thousand dollars, quite a big difference for the two cars. Is the Zephyr overpriced? Or, is the Fusion that much more of a better buy? Or, perhaps the answer lies somewhere in between. Let’s check out the two cars and see how they compare.  Dickinson Ford Dealership does sell more of the Ford Fusions than the Lincoln Zephyrs.

The Ford Fusion is a welcome addition to the Ford line up as the venerable but aging Taurus leaves the fleet. Along with the full size Five Hundred sedan and the Freestyle crossover vehicle, these new models are part of the overhaul changes put in place by Ford to get the brand moving again.

Ford tapped its relationship with Mazda to build the Fusion. Borrowing the well regarded Mazda 6 platform, the Fusion, Zephyr, and Milan all share the same platform and many of the components. As mentioned earlier, the Lincoln Zephyr is priced nearly ten thousand dollars more than the Fusion.  Vermont Ford Dealership can show you all the gadgets to make up the cost difference, but one wonders.

So, what are the differences between the Fusion and Zephyr? Unfortunately, not that much. Both cars come equipped with a 3.0L Duratec V6 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. In each model the engine produces the same 221 h.p. and the same performance results are achieved. This isn’t bad, but it is disappointing that Ford engineers did not tweak the Zephyr enough to distinguish it from its more pedestrian sibling.  While under the hood differences are not present, there are some differences in the ride. As typical with all Lincoln products, the Zephyr’s suspension system is tuned for a gentler, more luxurious feel. According to Lincoln, the steering has also been modified to give it a above average assist.

Next, the interior has been upgraded to include real walnut trim, a modified dashboard with sport display, and plush front bucket seats. The exterior possesses the ubiquitous big Lincoln grille as well as larger than life tail lights and keyless entry.  The Zephyr also offers a broader standard equipment list than the Ford, including a premium sound system, power heated front seats, and traction control. Still, a the top of the line Fusion SEL offers similar equipment options for a much lower price.

Ultimately, what it comes down to for potential buyers is this: would you be satisfied with a fully loaded Fusion SEL or are you willing to pay a premium for the Lincoln with a more luxurious trim level and a softer ride? A judgment call that only you can make despite the huge price differences between models.  Granger Ford has a selection next to none, if you want to check each of the models out yourself.

The Ford Fusion came in seventh on the list for October 2010, with a total of 16,251 units being sold.  Other cars that were on the top ten sales list include the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Honda Civic.  The smaller car segment is a growing class and there are constantly new models entering the race.  However, the Fusion remains a choice favorite among consumers because of its impressive safety ratings, great stylish outward appearance, and the option for a hybrid upgrade.  We will have to remember these sales figures for one of the slowest sales months to date and compare it to the end of the year totals.

However, like any other vehicle out on the automotive market this hybrid does have a couple draw backs.

The Ford Fusion Hybrid does not escape the high price tag for it’s class, and any xtra features will just add more. The Fusion Hybrid has a starting price around 28,000. This is not a vehicle I would recommend for first time buyers, but it is a great family vehicle.

Even with the high price this is still an amazing vehicle to have, and a great ride that you can’t say no to.

Located near Acura Annapolis and Alexandria Chevrolet are the new, 2011 Ford Fusion.  The Fusion was ranked number 5 out of 21 Affordable Midsize Cars.  Ford provides a three year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper basic warranty plan and a five year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. 

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety chose the 2011 Fusion one of it’s ”Top Safety Pick” because of the test scores for front, side, rollover and rear tests.  Also because it comes standard with electronic stability control.  The vehicle also received a score of “Good” in frontal offset tests, side impact tests and roof strength tests.  Even though the 2011 model hasn’t been tested yet, the 2010 model received five stars for driver and passenger front crash tests, side driver crash tests and rollover four-wheel drive crash tests.  They also received four stars in side rear passenger crash tests and rollover two-wheel drive crash tests.

The 2011 Fusion comes equipped with driver and passenger side front and front side airbags, and full length head curtain airbags.  There is also a new blind spot alert system that is offered.  This system will help drivers while backing up or changing lanes.  The Fusion also comes with the MyKey system.  MyKey is equipped to keep teenage drivers safe by limiting their speed and volume control and reminding all passengers to buckle up prior to driving off.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata has came along way since the 2006 Hyundai Sonata.  The 2011 Sonata was ranked 3 out of 21 Affordable Midsize Cars.  Hyundai offers a five year/60,000 mile warranty and a ten year/100,000 powertrain warranty.  Roadside assistance is included throughout the warranty period.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Sonata five stars for protecting both driver and front passenger in frontal impact crashes.  They also received five stars for protecting both font and rear sear passengers in side impact crashes and four stars for the ability to prevent a rollover.

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata also comes equipped with four-wheel anti-lock disk brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, along with stability control and traction control.  The Sonata comes with six airbags with every trim.  They have driver and passenger front airbags, torso-protecting side impact airbags for the front seats and full-length head protecting side curtain airbags for both rows of seating.

Even though the 2011 Hyundai Sonata ranked higher than the 2011 Ford Fusion, you can not beat the MyKey feature and the blind spot alert system.  Everyone needs a little help and a little piece of mind and both features allow you to have that.

4. Ford shocked the sports-car world in 1966 by racing in the Le Mans with a GT40 which broke Ferrari’s string of championships. Eventually Cincinnati Ford Dealers began selling street-able versions of it.

5. In the ’60s the fierce Shelby Cobras were born. Ford definitely can take credit for the engine and drive-train of one of the world’s best sports cars.

6. After quite a few years the 1992 Taurus SHO emerged. A former owner said, “It’s great, police don’t notice, insurance and taxes are almost nothing!”

7. The 2010 Fusion Hybrid. This vehicle has won all kinds of awards because it has responsive handling, it’s fun to drive, and is available in a lot of configurations.  This car is a state of the art hybrid and it’s reasonably price and has pretty good fuel economy.

8. The 2010 F-150, F-150s have been traversing the roadways since 1975 and is pretty much the best-loved truck in America. There is a lot of competition but Ford seems to outdo its rivals in most departments. Since 1948, the F-Series has sold over 30,000,000 vehicles which makes it the second-biggest seller of all time, Corolla being the first.

9. The 2011 Ford Mustang is a real improvement. Now with much better handling and performance, the 2011 offers new powertrains to keep its competitors hopping. The GT version is even hotter.

10. The 2011 Ford Fiesta, this vehicle has outsold the VW Golf and has become the best-selling car in Europe. And there’s a few simple reasons for that too. It’s a very good small car now in its sixth generation, it performs well, comes in a variety of configurations, starts at just $13,320, and is coming to take over the U.S. this summer.
