Ford Ranger: 2010’s Most Fuel Efficient Truck

Americans love their trucks, that is something no one can deny. Some people may prefer the luxury you find from a vehicle at Mercedes-Benz Pittsburgh, but there is something unique and almost nostalgic about a big truck. Americans are also trying to be more green and this year the two most fuel efficient trucks were compact versions. Third place was a tie between two hybrid models! Consumers can probably expect to see an increasing variety of full size hybrid trucks to choose from. You might be able to find these 2010 models from Cincinnati Used Cars or visit the dealer for some great end of the year pricing. VW Peoria offers some great hybrid and diesel cars, vans, and crossovers, but no trucks.

The most fuel efficient truck of 2010 is the Ford Ranger! This honor only applies to the 2.3 liter four cylinder engine, but still, that is some pretty impressive fuel economy ratings. If drivers opt for the more powerful V6 engine then they might want to upgrade to the Ford F-150 because you are going to get about the same fuel economy as a F-150 with a V8 engine! Both models get an anticipated 15 mpg around town and 21 mpg on the highway.

Second on the list was another compact truck, the Toyota Tacoma. Buyers might be drawn away from the Ford Ranger because the Tacoma still gives you 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway but has a lower price by a few thousand dollars. Depending on how long someone plans on keeping their truck will be a big deciding factor as to which compact truck they choose.

The 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac came in at 6th place on the Environmental Protection Agency’s list of fuel efficient trucks. With fuel estimations of 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, the convenience and versatility of the V6 Sport Trac makes it popular among young families who need a roomy backseat and towing capabilities.

2011 Ford Explorer Gets More Traction

Ford Motor Co. says its 2011 Ford Explorer will have a control system that lets drivers select how much traction they want based on road conditions. Using a dial in the center of the console, drivers can select one of four modes: Normal roads, muddy roads, snowy roads or sand. The SUV then adjusts the engine, transmission, brakes, wheel rotation speed and other systems.

For example, if a driver sets the dial to snow, the Explorer will engage traction control, use more braking and slow down the wheels. In sand, it will do the opposite, since the wheels need to keep spinning. The new system will come standard on all four-wheel-drive models of the 2011 Explorer, which goes on sale at the end of this year.

Drivers were confused by the current Ford Explorer’s Control Trac system, which allowed them to switch to high or low traction or stay in automatic, said Jim Holland, the 2011 Explorer’s chief engineer. The new system replaces Control Trac and brings together some functions that were previously separate. In the current Explorer, for example, drivers who wanted to go over sand could turn off their anti-lock brakes for a better ride, but most didn’t know that. The new system does that automatically.

This new add-on is especially great for vacationers or people that live in rough terrains.

The Ford Explore Sport Trac has the lockable watertight bed cover as well as an in bed storage compartment. Now, the interior does replicate that of a Ford Explorer and it is comfortable but it is a little dated on the inside. The Sport Trac does have an independent suspension. Now some consumers have complained the V6 is underpowered according to Car and Driver, it does deliver the excellent balance of power and efficiency. Now if you want to have juice in your Sports Trac, opt for the 4.6L V8 engine. This engine is quite impressive because it has three cylinders and advanced dual-equal variable cam timing technology. It will pump out 292 horsepower, 315 lb of torque and all impressive EPA estimated 15 city/21 highway. It also comes available with the four wheel drive, trailer tow packages and the 5 Star Test Ratings. For the 2010 models, Ford’s Infotainment is available, SYNC the in car connectivity, navigation system through Sirius and Securi Code Keyless Entry Keypad.
