The new Ford Edge bun-shaped gets a revised exterior look with a new front grille and an overall higher-end look. The interior, which lacks a lot of luxurious comforts that other models in the same class have, gets entirely redesigned with material more consistent with the vehicle’s price. Ford is making a big push for tech and gadget leadership with the Edge. It is the first Ford to use the new MyFord Touch information and entertainment interface, which uses two small screens in the instrument panel, a large screen in the center of the dash and a couple of five-way controllers on the steering wheel. More compelling is the 2011 Edge’s reworked braking system — which replaces a frankly substandard system in the original Edge — a reworked suspension and wider tires to whip the Edge’s handling and steering feel into shape. Ford also improved the Edge’s sound-deadening abilities, which lend it a perception of quality. The Sport model for 2011 is more differentiated from the regular models. It now has an exclusive 3.7-liter, 305-horsepower V6 that is the base motor from the 2011 Mustang. The model also carries a blacked-out nose and absurdly large 22-inch polished rims. We are absolutely in love with many of the vehicles from San Diego Ford Dealers, and especially are fond of the 2011 Ford Edge. Ford Has The Edge!

Soon to be located at Greenfield Ford and Edmont Ford is the all new, 2011 Ford Edge. The Edge was ranked number 9 out of 23 Affordable Midsize SUVs. Just like the Dodge Journey, which can be found at Dodge Flagstaff, the Edge comes with a three year/36,000 mile basic warranty and a five year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty.

The Ford Edge comes with a 3.5 liter V6 engine that creates 285 horsepower. It is paired with a six speed automatic transmission. The SEL and Limited models are going to be equipped with a SelectShift Automatic with manual shifting mode. The Sport model will come with a 3.7 liter V6 engine that creates 305 horsepower. It is also paired with the six speed SelectShift Automatic transmission with paddle activation.

The 2011 model has yet to be tested, but the 2010 model received five stars for protecting occupants in all outboard seating positions in side impact crash tests. They also received five stars for driver protection in frontal crash tests and four stars for passenger protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Edge it’s highest rating of “Good” in frontal, side impact and rear crash protection. The Edge comes standard with dual stage front airbags, front seat mounted side impact airbags and side curtain airbags. It also comes with four wheel disc anti-lock brakes and Advance Trac with Roll Stability control.

Ford has came out with a new Blind Spot Information System. This system will alert the drive with an indicator light when a vehicle is detected entering the “blind spot zone”. It also has a cross-traffic alert feature which uses blind spot monitoring sensors to audibly and visually alert the driver of approching traffic while backing out of the driveway or parking spot. The Edge also has power side view blind spot mirrors which help the driver see while moving through traffic. An SOS Post Crash Alert System will make the hazard lights flash and the horn sound in the event of an accident.

Ford has installed many, many safety features into this vehicle. It would be worth the time and effort to check this new vehicle out. You never know, it might be the best decision that you ever made.

Ford’s Line of EcoBoost Engines Expanding

Ford announced that it will be opening three new power plants before the end of the year in order to expand its line of EcoBoost engines. EcoBoost is Ford’s brand name for an engine technology package that optimizes engine efficiency through turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable camshaft timing.

Scheduled for production in the US are a 2-liter 4-cylinder for the next generation of Explorer S.U.V. and the Edge, and a 3.5-liter V-6 for the F-150 pickup truck. All three engines will replace larger engines and will reportedly provide similar or enhanced performance, while reducing emissions and improving fuel economy.

Of course, efficient power is a universal goal of the world’s automakers, but Ford has been diligently selling the virtues of smaller, more advanced engines to American drivers. Ford plans to eventually make EcoBoost engines available in 90 percent of its North American nameplates and 80 percent of its brands worldwide. The new Ford Edge has not been Ford’s most popular car, this much has been understood by the #15 ranking out of the 28 affordable midsized SUV’s, but it is also shown from this ranking that it hasn’t been doing so bad either. Its quick acceleration, comfortable roomy interior, easy-to-use controls, and sporty exterior has earned it a definite seat in any Cincinnati Ford Dealer’s mind for a potential sales item on their lot.

Granted the Ford Edge may not regain all of the hype and popularity of even a used F-150, but it still offers its own positive nature to the Ford company table.

It has earned an 8.1 for an overall score with the negatives of the customizations inflating the price of the Ford Edge as well as the fact that there is no third-row seat option, which can be a big decision-maker for consumers who are looking for something to make room for more then five. While this sounds dis-heartening the reality of the Edge still being one of Ford’s many top-selling vehicles is still there. Consumers still love this car as another innovative Ford creation. The question is: do they have room in their hearts to still love this car as well as the other and more newer upcoming Ford inventions or will the Ford Edge get left in the dust?
